Everyone wants straight teeth, moreso if they come fast and cheap. If you read numerous online articles, no doubt you’ve come across the story of Amos Dudley, a 23-year-old student who seems to have arrived at the perfect solution: 3D-printed DIY braces.
As a design student, Dudley had access to a 3D printer on campus, which facilitated his innovation. After researching the matter, he 3D printed a set of 12 plastic braces which he wore over 16 weeks. The result? Perfectly straight teeth (if his photos are to be believed) at a bargain-bin price of just $60.
On paper, this should be a revolutionary leap for orthodontic technology. In practice, however, this DIY approach to correcting malocclusions raises quite a few red flags. Read more on this article:
